We’re now moving our interests onto the sophisticated tequila types that are the perfect ingredient for the well-deserved after-five cocktail. To prove it, Lee Applbaum, Global Marketing Officer of Patrón Spirits International (a.k.a. the Chanel of tequila) gave us the down low on today's tequila. “Ultra-premium 100% agave tequila, like Patrón, is a more refined drink, on par with a fine scotch or cognac,” he says. “High-quality tequilas are not what you might remember of tequila from years ago.” Scroll down for three simple tequila-based cocktail recipes that will make cocktail hour even sweeter.

Tommy’s Margherita


45ml Patrón Silver

Juice from half a lime

5ml Agave syrup

Full cup of ice


1. In an ice filled shaker add all ingredients, shake vigorously and strain into an ice filled glass.

2. Garnish, 1 lime wedge


Tequila Negroni


30ml Patrón Reposado

30ml Campari

30ml Antica Formula

1 x Orange slice


1. Shake all ingredients with ice until chilled and diluted

2. Garnish: 1 orange slice


Sweet Tequila Manhattan


45ml Patrón Anejo

15ml Sweet Vermouth

15ml Dry Vermouth

5ml Cherry Juice (taken from jar)


1. Shake all ingredients with ice until chilled and diluted

2. Garnish: 1 cherry
