Bye, Plastic Bags—This Genius Alternative Is Going Viral (It's $18 on Amazon)
So far this year, we've witnessed the downfall of plastic straws, with companies like Starbucks, McDonald's, and Disney banning the environmental hazards and replacing them with their reusable counterparts. Now, thanks to a viral attn: video posted on Facebook, we have an environmentally friendly equivalent for plastic bags: Stashers.
Made of platinum silicone, Stashers are the first-ever self-sealing, airtight, plastic-free bags in the world. Created by entrepreneur Kat Nouri, the reusable, dishwasher-friendly bags can be baked, boiled, thrown in the microwave, and frozen. But as Nouri points out in the video, they can also be used in any situation where you would typically reach for a plastic bag, e.g., when organising or storing your makeup, hair products, electronics, toiletries, spare change, and the like.
"The average person in the U.S. is using 525 baggies per year. That's 1.7 billion baggies that go into landfills," she explains. "This generation [is] voting with their dollars; they want to make sure that whatever money they're spending on specific products goes back into protecting the environment. We're trying to provide a better alternative from the get-go."
At just $18 a pop, the Stasher bags are already an Amazon best seller, amassing just shy of 800 customer reviews. The bags come in nine different colourways and designs, in addition to three different sizes: snack, sandwich, and half-gallon.
