The 5 Most Popular Health Foods for 2018, According to 740 Surveyed Dietitians
The health and wellness industry is arguably most susceptible to myths (thanks to the pervasive, shoddy science behind a large number of studies). As a result, assessing which "superfoods," diet plans, and workouts are actually legitimate and worth investing your time and money into can be difficult. To resolve this issue, Kind tapped its network of 740 registered and practicing dietitians and nutrition experts across the U.S. to predict which health and wellness trends will actually stick around in 2018 and beyond. According to the resulting infographic, the following five health food trends aren't going anywhere in the New Year:
- Sprouted foods like bean sprouts, breads with sprouted grains, sprouted almonds, and more.
- Veggies in place of grains
- Dairy-free milks
- Pulses, which are part of the legume family and include died peas, edible beans, lentils, chickpeas, and more.
Food aside, the surveyed experts also predict that low-fat diets are on their way out, while local, sustainably-sourced diets focusing on gut health will blossom into 2018. Consumers will be most focused on cutting out added sugar, while adding more protein and prebiotics/probiotics to their diets. In their opinion, the most overhyped superfood of 2017 was coconut oil, while Ketogenic and paleo diets took the cake as far as meal plans.
