The Secret to Work Life Balance for Mums? Work Less
The Atlantic is reporting on an interesting new study from Pew Research Center that highlights the continual struggle of working mothers. One in five mums says it’s very difficult to balance work and a family. Working mums are twice as likely as dads to say that parenthood has hurt their career and 40 per cent say that they always feel rushed. The happiest and most satisfied mums are the ones who worked only part time. “Compared to mums who are working full-time, those who work part-time feel like things are more under control,” explains Jenny Anderson. Part-time working mothers are “more likely to take the juggling act in stride and they’re also more likely to be satisfied with the amount of time they spend with their children.” The part-time mums also felt less rushed and spend more time with their partners than the full timers. The sad thing about the findings is that no mum group seemed to have enough time for themselves or their friends.
