Calling It: These Will Be the Big Paint Colour Trends of 2018
For the first time in the history of PPG Paints, the company picked black as its colour of the year for 2018. While we can agree that the world can feel pretty gloomy right now, PPG had a different vision behind this unique colour choice. The company announced earlier this week, "Black creates the silence we crave in an information-heavy world, while the Indigo offers possibility and a deep hopefulness," said senior colour marketing manager Dee Schlotter.
The colour, named Black Flame, isn't meant to simply remind us that the world seems a little dark right now; "It also signifies a rebirth," says Schlotter. "It has the unique ability to take away weakness in a space and allow for regeneration to make it even stronger.”
Among its other colour predictions for the next year: a twilight colour palette made up of dark blues, greens, and charcoal tones paired with warm golden yellows and muted pinks—suggesting that warm neutrals aren't going anywhere.
Sherwin-Williams is also predicting a mix of dark charcoal tones paired with warm neutral hues with its Sincerity palette released earlier this week as part of its 2018 Colourmix Forecast, announcing, "Blending in is the new standing out. Flaws are treasured. The hushed tones of this score play out in sand, complex greys and hazy botanicals." Don't wait for 2018 to paint your walls. Get ahead of the curve with these trendy tones.
