See How This French Designer Brings It-Girl Style to Her Bali Retreat
Bali is a dream holiday destination for many Australians. With its pristine beaches, a burgeoning food and coffee culture, and affordable luxury accommodation, it’s a perfectly easy getaway at any time of year. More recently, the relaxed way of life has meant that many entrepreneurs and creatives have started to call the island home in order pursue to their long-lived dreams.
One such creative is Magali Pascal. With four of her eponymous boutiques located in Bali, the Parisian-born fashion designer has set up a luxury home away from home for when she visits. Known for piecing together garments that exude French elegance with a bohemian twist, her beach pad resembles a similar tenant, from the white shutters, to the indoor-meets-outdoor aesthetic.
Pascal has also used Balinese craftsmen to custom-make furniture, and she sought out unique vintage pieces from local stores. “There are a lot of antique furniture shops in Bali, but you really need to spend time and dig,” she says. “Lemari [in Dalung Kuta Utara] is owned by a Dutch gentleman and he always has interesting Javanese old colonial pieces. There is also Kim Soo in Seminyak, own by Australian couple Kim and Don.”
