You Can Ripen Avocados in Just 10 Minutes—Here's How

Kelsey Clark

Thanks to Pure Wow, we may have just solved one of life's greatest mysteries: the seldom-ripe avocado. If your relationship with avocados thus far consists of watching them go from unripe to completely rotten in the span of just a few days, then you understand where I'm coming from on this one. With just a baking sheet, tinfoil, and a stubbornly unripe avocado, you can satiate your unrelenting guac craving in just 10 minutes. Here's how to do it:

Step One: Preheat your oven to 100°C.

Step Two: Wrap the avocado in tinfoil and set it on the baking sheet. Place in the oven for 10 minutes, or until the avocado is soft.

Step Three:  Remove from the oven, and place in the fridge to cool. Once cooled, enjoy your fresh guacamole or avocado toast!

While this may seem to good to be true, there's a simple scientific explanation behind this work of magic. As Pure Wow explains, avocados slowly release ethylene gas, which causes the fruit to ripen. Placing a tinfoil-wrapped avocado in the oven traps the ethylene gas around the fruit, putting the ripening process into hyperdrive.
