Yes, You Can Casually Rent Your Own Private Island in Belize for $800
If a picturesque island getaway is your idea of the ultimate vacation but you'd prefer other people to be, well, out of the picture, then this next news is for you. Whether you're seeking a truly solo experience while soaking up some sun by yourself, looking to carve out quality time with your S.O. in a remote locale, or planning a tropical trip with five of your most adventurous friends, consider renting your very own private island for your next trip. The best part? You don't have to be a millionaire to book this beachside retreat.
For just under $800 per night, you can rent Bird Island, a breathtaking atoll surrounded by a coral reef in Placencia, Belize. Tasting Table recently spilled the beans on the Airbnb destination, which, unsurprisingly, is completely booked until July 2019 the last we checked—but judging from the low-key listing's array of amenities, it may be worth blocking off your calendar now.
According to Bird Island's Airbnb page, the "Robinson Crusoe–type" private paradise offers all the comforts of mainland accommodations while being within steps from "excellent swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and exploring." In addition to the main one-bedroom, one-bathroom house plus a separate cabana, the listing notes that a brand-new self-contained cabana over the water will be ready by this September.
You'll have to bring your own food if you plan on staying here (though, the island does have a kitchen that's stocked with certain condiments and other cooking essentials), but should you decide to pay a quick visit to civilization, the island is just a 20-minute boat ride away from the mainland.
