You Can Rev Up Your Metabolism Before You Leave for Work—Here's How
Being mindful of your metabolism is one of the only surefire ways to make sure your body is efficiently processing food. The faster your metabolism, the faster your body is able to break down food and turn it into the essential energy you need to thrive. Fortunately, we have some element of control over this process—control that can be harnessed by what you do first thing in the morning.
Lauren Foundos, CEO and founder of FORTË, a live-streaming platform for boutique fitness classes, personally swears by a four-step morning approach: Drink coffee or green tea, work out, eat a high-protein breakfast, and always remember to hydrate.
"Coffee minus the cream or syrup, or better yet, green tea, can actually improve energy levels during exercise,” she told INSIDER. As for the workout itself, she recommends switching it up. "Not only [will it] keep things interesting, but it will help maximise the boost to your metabolism," she explains. “Interval training will keep your metabolism elevated for several hours after your workout—and no, weight lifting will not make you bulky!”
As for breakfast, Foundos usually reaches for something high in protein, like a veggie omelet. A quick bowl of organic yoghurt, cottage cheese, or oatmeal with nuts are all good options as well. Water is one of the most important parts of the meal—it's not only "essential to your existence, but it also helps boost your metabolism, lowers your risk of heart attack, prevents headaches, and can help you lose weight," she concludes.
