Shop the Room: DVF's Sumptuous Boudoir
Diane von Furstenberg has brought her signature bohemian edge to the world of womenswear since she began designing clothes in 1970. That edge was captured perfectly in her Paris apartment designed by Francois Catroux, who also began designing around the same time. He is known for being able to capture the personalities of his clients in the most elegant way. He has done nothing short of that in this luxurious boudoir. Whether you're taking respite from Paris Fashion Week or not, rest in a bedroom as sumptuous as this by following these three steps. Ms. von Furstenberg personally designed the custom pink leopard carpet for her bedroom and it gives the room just the right amount of attitude. You can shop many of her other designs at The Rug Company, but something about pairing a pink leopard rug with traditional furnishings and silk textiles is uber chic. To keep the bedroom serene, keep all other colours in the room creamy whites, so you don't overwhelm the space with colour. If you're going to invest in a grand canopy bed, make sure it's as glamorous as possible. Do so by puddling your drapes. Puddling is when the drapes are longer than needed for the hem to merely touch the floor, in this case about six inches. Although this can be done with any type of fabric, these silk drapes help give the illusion of grandeur, as the sheen of the fabric highlights the folds and creases of the puddle. Whether we're talking Louis XIV, XV, or XVI; they all had great taste in furniture. When looking for that quintessential Parisian look, shop for furniture from (or inspired by) these French Kings' period of reign. Although their styles varied, they all captured the refined glamour we're after. Don't forget to pair with some unexpected modern accents though, like a graphic Comete Mirror. Chic is all about the modern mix.
