Tour the Classic Hamptons Home of an Australian Landscape Architect

Lauren Powell

Manhattan-based Australian landscape architect Daniel Richards is living the New York dream. The talented designer, whose clients include the likes of Rupert Murdoch, Baz Luhrman, and Sarah Jessica Parker, splits his time between the Big Apple and this stunning holiday home on Long Island. “I spend all day in New York, but I come here on a Thursday night and don’t get back into my car until Sunday evening,” Richards told Vogue Living.

The 1840’s three-storey Sag Harbor cottage is a classic Hamptons-style home with a cedar shingle exterior, peaked ceilings and a neutral interior furnished with monochromatic, classic statement pieces. And it is, of course, complete with a spectacular garden. “I find a neutral palette more relaxing,” he says. “I love colour in other people’s homes, but I don’t want it in mine. Monochromatic schemes are calming for me.”
