3 Gadgets Nutritionists Can’t Live Without
We always tell our Foodtrainers clients, we’re nutritionists and not chefs. I mean, my kitchen in NYC is smaller than most people’s closets… so I just gawk at the gorgeous spacious kitchens on MyDomaine and pretend that I would be a master chef if I had the room. But, there are certain can’t-live-without gadgets in my life that I will make room for no matter where I am. No joke: We even travel with them on vacation!
Vitamix 5200 Series Blender ($480)
This was my first “adult” investment, and it was worth every penny. The Vitamix pulverizes smoothies, transforms almonds into almond butter and almond milk, and makes soups, sauces, cashew cheese, and dressings too. Don’t even get me started on cocktails, fro yo a.k.a. “faux yo” (banana soft serve), and popsicles. If you’re not ready to make the full-priced investment, you can buy refurbished ones that are just as good! Someone once told me if their apartment went up in flames, they’d grab the Vitamix first. I have to agree with that sentiment.
Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Slicer ($12)
Have your pasta and eat it too with this genius device that’s taken off this year. Spiralize zucchini, cucumber, sweet potatoes, carrots and more for a veggie pasta party. Kids love helping with this one. I recommend the hand-held (and cheaper) Veggetti over the Paderno, and I love heading over to inspiralized.com for some spiral cooking inspiration.
Uniq Teas Matcha Whisk ($9)
Be a matcha, matcha (wo)man! Matcha is like green tea on steroids, boosting your metabolism and offering serious anti-cancer benefits. Whip up some matcha with hot or cold water or almond milk with a matcha whisk. It’s traditionally used in Japanese ceremonies and will make you feel like you know what you’re doing and it also blends the powdered tea and liquid really well for a smooth sip.
Oh, and a bonus, I am seriously obsessed with my zester/microplane right now, too. A little lime or lemon zest adds so much flavour to just about everything from yogurt (key lime) to salads.
