Avocado Rice Is the Healthy New "It" Side Dish
Do you have any idea what avocado rice is? To be perfectly honest, we didn’t either. That is, until we did a little research and found out that it’s a delectable side dish made from mixing together avocado and your favourite type of rice (be it brown, white, or even cauliflower). Since avocado is basically in every rice bowl, we already knew we’d like the taste. We guess it’s basically a starch and a veggie all in one… Okay, fine, it’s a starch and a fruit all in one. Regardless, when paired with a protein, it rounds out literally any meal.
The health (and beauty!) benefits of avocado are no secret, and results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey show that those who regularly eat the fruit are much healthier than those who omit it from their diets. Why is that, you may ask? Well, according to research, the fruit increases your levels of nutrients, lowers your risk for heart disease and diabetes, and gives you less belly fat and more “good” cholesterol. Rice, on the other hand, has its own benefits: It’s good for your skin, aids in regulating your blood sugar, and even helps keep your body energised. When the two superfoods combine, it’s like a match made in heaven—it’s also one of Ina Garten’s favourite foods (just saying).
So if you aren’t already making this healthful recipe, chances are you should. With just some simple ingredients—plus a few minutes—you’ll have a totally satisfying accompaniment for your entrée. Go on: Learn how to make one of our favourite takes on avocado rice below.
