Australia is known for many things: Our pristine coastline, our unparalleled food scene—even if it's just avocado on toast. But one sector that goes oft-overlooked is our ballet industry. Though the barre-fitness craze has well and truly become a staple in the workout routines of many women around the country, the truth is Australian ballet dancers are in fact some of the most talented dancers across the globe, known for their artistic capacity to exude elegance and strength even in the toughest of ballet positions.

So, while pasta and spritzing is a great weekend pastime, what is arguably a better use of your precious time and money is a night at the ballet—champagne in hand. Currently, The Australian Ballet is showing The Merry Window in Sydney: a breath-taking production set in the ballrooms of Paris. Combining dramatic music, inspiring set design, and of course, some of the world’s most talented dancers, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend an evening. Over the next few months, the company will also be showing iconic ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Cinderella across the country.

What's also so unique about The Australian Ballet is its behind-the-scenes offering, which allows the audience to immerse themselves entirely into the ethereal world of dancers. For as little as $5, you can see what a ballet class really looks like for professional dancers by getting an up-close look at their training sessions. Date night just got so much more interesting.
