The Unexpected Wedding Trends of 2016
Just like fashion and interiors, wedding trends come and go. While we’ve loved the likes of the photo booth and flower market over the past couple of years, it’s time to welcome with open arms a new breed of trends for 2016. Editor of Cosmopolitan Bride, founder of The Festive Co, and stylist extraordinaire, Alexis Teasdale has shared with us her expertise and the exciting trends we can expect to swoon over this year. Scroll on to find out what you’ll be admiring at your next celebration of love.
If you want a bird's-eye view of the day, some photographers and videographers send up drones to grab aerial views of weddings. It’s fantastic for those outdoor celebrations that are completely un-covered! BUT they can be noisy*, distracting and dangerous if not used correctly—this is definitely something that needs to be left to your professionals so they can check the rules and restrictions at your venue. I’ve also seen brides tuck GoPro cameras in their ceremony arches to capture that unique angle of those special moments, which can be made into a time-lapse video later. *Best for after the ceremony is over.

There have been a lot of naked cakes of late, but I think that will start phasing out and we’ll see a lot more personality instead. Think tiers of doughnuts, a giant apple pie, a ‘pinata’ cake with lollies that burst out as you cut it, and wheels and wheels of cheese layered into a cake shape.
When it comes to bridal fashion, 2015 saw lots and lots (and lots) of sheer panels in dresses, with beading and textured laces featuring heavily, often balanced out with long sleeves too. There will certain be a lot of this in 2016, but also clean line gowns too. Think really modern, elegant and simple silhouettes.
