7 of the Most Gorgeous Wallpapered Ceilings
Ceilings are an oft-overlooked area of the home. By default, we focus on the more obvious elements in a room: the floors, walls, table surfaces, and furniture. That the ceiling is a bit of an afterthought makes it that much more interesting when it’s used to make a statement. Enter wallpaper. Adding wall coverings to the ceiling infuses a home with unexpected character and an extra touch of flair. Whether you go high-impact or take a more muted approach, this is a feature that can really make a room sing. Keep scrolling to see some of our favourite covered ceilings!
This room is proof that even the humble butler’s pantry can be a showpiece in any home. With such bold cabinetry, the designer could have easily opted for a simple white ceiling, and the space would still have been standout. But the dark starry wallpaper actually highlights the dramatic paint job even more and gives the space a den-like feel.
This bedroom is calm and classic with its neutral tones and traditional lines. Adding a casual circular pattern to the ceiling with a hit of bright yellow lends a sense of irreverence to the room and keeps it from feeling too serious.
This nursery is très chic, and we’d expect nothing less from homeowner Ivanka Trump. The soothing palette gets a punch of playful yet classic pattern by including Sandberg Wallpaper on the ceiling. We love that the irregular floral pattern is feminine but not girlie–just like the rest of the room.
This colourful, slightly mod room uses high-contrast elements to make a statement, and the geometric print adorning the ceiling is no exception. The intricate throwback pattern makes the room feel larger than it is and makes an interesting counterpoint to some of the more traditional furniture, like the yellow table and white chair.
It doesn’t get much better than this gold-accented teal entryway. The high-gloss walls and gorgeous metallic ceiling are a daring way to welcome guests into the otherwise stately, traditional Upper East Side home. We love that the designer, Lilly Bunn, took a “more is more” approach by including a dramatic urchin ceiling fixture. Instead of overpowering the gold ceiling, it actually makes it stand out even more.
This clean and simple office gets a dose of modern cool with a graphic wallpapered ceiling and a sputnik chandelier. The navy triangles play well with the blue chair, and the grey provides a nice transition for the other colours in the room.
This room manages to feel both traditional and surprisingly forward-thinking due to this unreservedly bold ceiling wallpaper. The paisley print would be too grandmotherly on the walls, but when placed on the ceiling, it’s utterly modern. The inclusion of midcentury furniture (hello, Wegner-style chair!) and fun touches like faux-fur pillows keep things light and relaxed.
