In this fast-paced world where things need to be done yesterday, anything to increase my productivity is greatly welcomed. In fact, I recently increased the speed of my computer mouse after I read it was the number one productivity hack—it totally works, by the way. So when my colleague passed on a Forbes article with tips on how the ultra-productive get things done in less time, I had to click through. Break the Day Down Into Minutes
Most of us compartmentalise the day in hourly or half-hourly blocks, but highly successful people break it down into minutes—1440 minutes in the day to be exact. They know that time is more valuable than money, and unlike money, time can never be bought back. Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller told Forbes, "To this day, I keep a schedule that is almost minute by minute." So if you really want to master life, then crack the minutes code.
Do One Thing at a Time Without Interruption
If you really want to nail each task efficiently, then make sure you focus on only one thing. You should dedicate one to two hours to get that Most Important Task (MIT) done without any disruptions. According to Forbes, Tom Ziglar, CEO of Ziglar Inc. said, "Invest the first part of your day working on your number one priority that will help build your business.” Think about the end goal and determine which task in your list will have the most impact on reaching it. It could enhance your chances of getting a promotion.
Throw Away Your To-Do List
This will be really hard for most of us, simply because ticking things off your to-do list feels so good. But there is an alternative. Productive people schedule everything on their calendar instead. Why? Well apparently only 41% of items on to-do lists are ever actually done, and the ones that don't get completed just cause us unnecessary stress and mental injury, sometimes even insomnia, thanks to the Zeigarnik effect. So if you want to be stress-free and get things done, organise your calendar with everything you need to do and work from it in real time. “Use a calendar and schedule your entire day into 15-minute blocks. It sounds like a pain, but this will set you up in the 95th percentile… ”, says the co-founder of The Art of Charm, Jordan Harbinger.
