A Successful Australian Travel Entrepreneur Shares Her Best Business Advice
You may be familiar with the The Luxe Nomad from when you were last planning a dream-like escape or adding destinations to your ultimate bucket list. The inspiring travel site—which is now Asia-Pacific’s leading luxury villa and hotel booking portal—is home to some of the most desirable accommodation options in the world. The mastermind behind the start-up travel company and self-confessed nomad, Stephanie Chai, scours the globe to hand-pick a curated collection of luxury villa and hotel sites, and accompanies them with the best rates. She is the proof in the pudding that a simple idea can turn into a dream career.
“Successful entrepreneurs such as Natalie Massenet [founder of Net-a-Porter] show you that a dream can start anywhere. She launched her business out of her bedroom, which is something I did as well—from the living room of my apartment to be exact!” Chai told Sporteluxe.
Chai shared with Sporteluxe her top tips for starting your own business and suggests firstly, asking yourself three important questions. Budding entrepreneurs, read on.
1. Do you believe in the business model 100 percent? Don’t do something half-hearted.
2. What is your work ethic like? Are you someone who can work late into the night or over the weekend if need be? If you are lazy and do the nine-five, forget about it, because nothing great comes easy.
3. Do you have a strong head on your shoulders? To run a start-up, you need to lead. And sometimes that can mean sitting at a table with venture capital reps (who are overtly accomplished and intelligent on paper) and disagreeing with their points. Make sure you have the self-awareness to know when you are wrong and when you are right.
