Special Father’s Day Tribute Honours the Men Who Raised Us
The plight of women throughout history to achieve gender equality is well documented, from the right to vote to the Sexual Discrimination Act, but what about the men? As we approach Father’s Day, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg reminds us how things used to be. In this short tribute video from Makers, she reveals how her 1975 landmark gender discrimination case changed fatherhood in America and reversed the stereotype of male as breadwinner and female as caretaker. “We want people to be judged by what they do, by the functions they perform, and not by gender,” she says. The heartwarming clip features images of Martha Stewart, Sarah Silverman, and Lena Dunham with the fathers who raised them, because gender equality begins at home. Happy Father’s Day!
