Creative Ways to Use Snapchat for Business
It's confession time: We're addicted to Snapchat. This fun, witty, and raw form of social media has exploded in popularity, and it's not very hard to see why. Unlike the edited highlight reel of Instagram, Snapchat is a raw, uncensored behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lives of our favorite celebrities, bloggers, and influencers. Not only that, it's also super fun and quick. You don't need to spend time editing pictures before you upload; it's as simple as snap and send. But it's not just for casual personal use: This hip media has found a significant place in the professional world, too, with many companies and entrepreneurs using it as a key driver of traffic. How? We asked some of our favorite Snappers to share their tips and tricks on how to use this popular platform for business too. Scroll down to find out.

It's hard to imagine Snapchat without Jen Atkin. We have followed the celebrity hairdresser since she joined the hip social media platform. She even topped our list of the most inspiring women to follow, and we've been addicted ever since. Responsible for the stylish tresses of all the Kardashian sisters, Atkin's feed is filled with beautiful people and celebrity encounters, but that's not the only thing that keeps us coming back for more. She is hands-down one of the most hilarious snappers out there (across all three of her accounts @jenatkinshair @maneuniversity @ouaihair): She is self-deprecating and modest, transparent (she shares all her insider secrets), and super chic. In fact, we all just want to be her best friend. Snapchat loves her, too: The company even sent Jen a box full of ghost logo plush toys (cute) and bestowed her with the greatest honor of a personal filter to celebrate the launch of her new haircare line, Ouai. Jen kindly shared some of her business dos and don'ts on Snapchat.
• Think about creating a mini film: snapping start to finish.
• Mention your favorite brands and product picks.
• Get other people involved. Stories are more fun when you include other people.
• Layer filters.
• Use SnapCrack to upload photos.
• Snap before and afters.
• Make sure your snap isn’t on mute if you’re talking.
• Snap a selfie with a toilet behind you.
• Snap an entire concert.
• Do an entire story of selfies; you've got to switch it up.
• Don’t snap a dirty environment.
• Make sure your surroundings are photo-ready.
• Pretend you’re Adele singing super loud.
• Snap food photos when you’re in a dark restaurant.
• Don’t snap an entire speech. Each snap is 10 seconds for a reason!
• Cover the microphone with your fingers.
• Snap everything you eat.
When it comes to inspirational women, Chriselle Lim tops the list. She is the very definition of a modern mumpreneur. When she's not running her hugely successful blog, The Chriselle Factor, Lim is playing mum to beautiful baby Chloe, all of which she documents on her popular Snapchat account, @chrisellelim. We love how personal Chriselle gets with her fans, never afraid to share the highs with the lows and the fact that her life isn't the highlight reel of Instagram all the time: It's a lot of hard work, and it often involves time spent traveling away from her family. Chriselle has become a master of the snap, covering personal and professional seamlessly via the social platform. List complete outfit details on Snapchat instead of Instagram.
I usually post up my #OOTD on IG and tell my followers to head over to my Snapchat to get the details. This drives major traffic to my Snapchat, and I also get the most screengrabs when I list out products.
Make mini video tutorials.
I test out beauty products and do mini beauty tutorials on my Snapchat. For example, whenever I’m on the plane, I will snap my “in-flight beauty routine” featuring different products. This allows me to share, promote, and talk about different products I’m currently loving.
Give your fans a sneak peek.
I always give my #Snapchatfam a sneak peek of the newest video on my channel before it goes live. This not only gives them an exclusive look but also promotes the video to my followers.

Offer a look behind the scenes.
I use Snapchat to give my audience a fun, fleeting peek behind the scenes, but don’t overthink it. Focus on giving a glimpse that’s casual instead of cautious or curated. Your post disappears, after all.
Tell a story.
Sometimes I like to tell a story over a series of snaps broken down into a shareable sequence of events. Maybe it’s how to arrange flowers in a few simple steps, or putting together the perfect tabletop vignette.
Document a project.
I like to document our design process, but I'm always careful not to expose the privacy of our clients when capturing part of a project. Instead, I focus on storytelling through moments of inspiration, fabrics, and raw materials.

This chic couple from San Francisco only launched their style blog last year, but their popularity online has exploded (they have almost 70,000 fans on Instagram). We love their creative snaps that tell a unique story with a heady dose of fun.
Think of your snaps as a mini series.
Think about how you can create fun snaps, authentically, all strung together in a way that keeps a fellow Snapchatter "tuned in" to see what happens next.
Use the poor quality to your advantage.
Snapchat's video and photo quality sucks, but that doesn't mean your snaps have to. Finding the best light and angles can make a world of a difference, even in the gritty quality of 90% of all Snapchats, but don't aim for perfection—never aim for perfection; that's just not Snapchat.
