5 Superfood Smoothie Recipes to Try With 7 Ingredients or Less

Desperate to include more superfoods into your day but too timepoor to figure out how? Easy. We’ve found five superfood smoothie recipes that are brimming with nutritional value, and minus the overflowing trolley full of ingredients. The bonus is they're all ideal for breakfast so you can start the day right, or can be enjoyed as a healthy alternative to dessert or even just as a snack. Generally when it comes to #healthy meals, we’re scared off by the number of (and often foreign) ingredients. So if you’re in need of a quick and easy superfood hit, then the below recipes have your name all over them. Time to get blending!

Blue Hippie

Ingredients

Makes two 525-ml servings

2 cups fresh or frozen organic blueberries

1 tbsp. chia seeds (powder)

1 tbsp. flaxseed (powder)

1 tbsp. hemp seed (powder)

1 tbsp. coconut oil

2 cups almond milk

Directions 

Far out, man! Get the intense health boost of antioxidants in blueberries with the added benefits of hemp and flaxseeds, made creamy with almond milk. This drink will definitely make you one with the earthy flavours as well as help you feel totally chill.

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Blue Chai Crunch

Ingredients

Makes two 525-ml servings

1 cup fresh or frozen organic blueberries

1 cup acai berries (frozen) or 1 tbsp. powder

1 tbsp. chai tea (powder)

2–3 tbsp. chia seeds

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 cups organic raw whole milk or almond milk

1 tbsp. dried mulberries on top

Directions

The wonderful crunchy texture of the dried mulberry topping on this smoothie adds rustic appeal as well as flavour. Ingredients like acai berries compound the flavours and provide the benefits of disease-fighting antioxidants. This delectable drink will be enjoyed in all its chewy goodness.

Add all ingredients except dried mulberries to blender and blend until smooth. Top with dried mulberries.

Green Almond

Ingredients

Makes one 455-ml serving

1–2 handfuls organic kale

1 small banana

1 tbsp. almond butter

1 cup water

2 cups almond ice

Directions

This drink is loaded with nutrients and is a real palate pleaser. The combination of sweet bananas and almond flavour blend with the kale to make a fresh superfood smoothie.

Blend all ingredients together in a high-powered blender until creamy. Serve immediately.

Blood Orange Julius

Ingredients

Makes two 525-ml servings

1 blood orange (peeled)

1 cup organic whole milk yoghurt

½ cup dried mulberries

1 vanilla bean or ½ tsp. extract

1 tsp. honey

½ cup coconut water

1½ cups ice

Directions 

Pretty in pink, this creamy dreamsicle smoothie will absolutely surprise you. Its sinful flavour conceals its healthful nature. With every sip, you’d never guess you’re taking in healthy probiotics, fighting disease and reducing inflammation.

Juice blood orange and set aside. Blend all other ingredients together. Once blended, pulse blender to mix in the orange juice.

Chocolate Mint

Ingredients

Makes three 455-ml servings

4 pitted dates

1–2 cups raw milk (or almond milk)

¼ cup soaked almonds

2 tbsp. cacao nibs

½ cup packed mint leaves

½ small avocado

2 cups coconut ice

Directions

Chocolate and mint together makes for a tasty treat that never fails to satisfy. With this creamy drink, you can enjoy the combination guilt-free with the added bonus that it is actually good for you!

Skin all soaked almonds before placing them and the rest of the ingredients in a blender to blend into a chunky, minty goodness.
