Sibella Court Reveals Why You Should Update Your Home with Hardware

Sibella Court

For me, the tiniest details can make the biggest difference to a space. Ever since I was a young girl I have been fascinated by hardware—vintage, with patina, handtinkered and handsmithed and the pieces with patina my father would find and bring home to add to my growing collections.

Over my two decades of styling and designing, I have also come to love the contemporary hardware and joinery that is now available. The possibilities are endless when it comes to hardware, especially now that we have so many decorative options at our fingertips. I believe that by updating your hardware—doorknobs, drawer pulls, hooks and handles—you can transform a space entirely, inject new life into it and add to its many layers and stories.

The Front Door and Entryway

Set the tone of your home with a hardware update starting with your front door. I love front doors as a frame for your aesthetic, character and the spaces that it conceals. Over a fresh lick of paint try a statement doorknocker, a new mail slot, a decorative bell or vintage house numbers. Continue this in your entryway with statement hooks for your coat, keys and hats.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is the hearth and a real centre of a home. Try not to negate style with functionality because with the many options out there today, the two can be one and the same. You can make a big impact with small accents from drawer pulls, inventive ways to hang tea towels and hooks for utensils.

The Bathroom

Bathrooms are at once intimate and purposeful. Continue your aesthetic and personal taste into your wash room, powder room, ensuites and guest bathrooms. Toilet roll holders and soap dishes can be incredibly stylish and will add an element of playfulness to your space. Unlearn what is customary and create a space that reflects who you are.
