Sibella Court Reveals Her Travel Essentials
I love travelling; I even love packing—it is where a journey begins and sets the tone for the entire trip. I like to stick to my own colour palette when picking pieces, which is caramel, cream, and white tones. Refining your wardrobe and accessories will make the packing edit less stressful and all the more enjoyable!
It is important to be respectful of different cultures when abroad and I truly am a product of my environment, especially when overseas. However, I always travel with special items of my own that make me feel at home.
My luggage plays a huge part of my travels as it makes me feel like I am going on an adventure. I have been a loyal carrier of classic Filson suitcases for many years—they’re durable and always in my preferred colour palette.
I never travel without a soft-fringed cashmere throw. It beats any blanket in a hotel or on an airplane and can double as a shawl on cool desert nights.
I always carry two cameras when I travel and one or two classic Moleskine notebooks. Travelling is a huge part of my life as a stylist, so capturing inspiration on the move is crucial. I take my Canon 5D and G16 point-and-shoot (which both fit perfectly in my classic Billingham camera bag) along with me. Accessorizing your technology will make it all the more exciting and easy to incorporate into long days of walking and exploring. My Moleskine notebooks are the perfect size—they fit snugly into my bag and house all of the inspiration and thoughts that strike me during my travels. These two tools combined become a fantastic catalogue for when I return home.
I always wear a hat and carry my sunglasses with me everywhere. A classic felt fedora or crisp panama hat are my first choices (weather permitting), and classic Ray-Ban aviators are a must! Wear them at the airport, on the plane, and when you land. It will definitely make you feel stylish and sophisticated even when you’re running on empty—not to mention protection from the European sun! And lastly, a good pair of all-purpose boots is essential—from cool weather through to warmer climates, quality footwear never goes amiss.
I believe you can never have enough protection, and for me that comes in the form of amulets and talismans. I wear two every day and they help me to feel centered in any situation, which is perfect when you’re abroad and away from what is familiar. They definitely are powerful and will keep you safe.
