The 3 Women Who Top Forbes's Richest Women List Will Surprise You
True to form, Forbes's list of America's richest self-made women didn't disappoint. From time-honoured music moguls to innovative e-commerce entrepreneurs, America's most exclusive list of girl bosses welcomed 13 fresh faces in 2016.
We're shedding a spotlight on three impressive newcomers who've built their $250 million–and-up empires in record time.
1. Jessica Alba, actress and founder of The Honest Company
The Honey star has since danced her way into a $340 million USD fortune by way of her household goods company, The Honest Company. Ranked at number 42, Alba broke the $250 million USD mark after raising $100 million USD in venture capital in August of last year.
As an entrepreneur, a public figure, and a busy mother of two, Alba has since evolved into a kind of poster mother for having it all—and then some.
2. Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO of NastyGal
Everyone's favourite girl boss and self-made entrepreneur cracked the 60-person list after growing her empire to an impressive $280 million USD.
A true rags-to-riches story, Amoruso spent her early days dumpster diving for food, sticking it to "the man," and selling (sometimes stolen) items on eBay. She slowly began honing her skills as online retailer, curating a covetable Cali-girl style through her brand NastyGal—very popular with the 18- to 24-year-old crowd. Her initial foray into online retail has since evolved into a million-dollar girl boss brand, featuring a memoir, a blog, and a podcast.

3. Carolyn Rafaelian, founder of Alex and Ani
Your go-to destination for affordable bangles has since grown into a jewellery empire in its own right. From beginning with a simple goal of creating eco-conscious jewellery with love in the U.S.A., founder Carolyn Rafaelian has since transformed her small start-up into a $700 million USD company.
After starting in Rhode Island in 2004, Alex and Ani has expanded to over 62 retail locations across the country, cultivating a specific "way of living" in the process, according to the Alex and Ani website.
