6 Reasons Splendour in the Grass Isn't Just for 20-Somethings
One of our most-loved festivals, Splendour in the Grass, is almost upon us! As soon as the line-up was announced yesterday we rallied the troopes, dusted off our gumboots, and scheduled a calendar note for next Thursday when the sought-after tickets go on sale. And it’s not only the impressive line-up that has us counting down the days until July 22, but the whole package that a weekend at the famed music festival has to offer. Read on the find out why seeing The Strokes and Flume aren’t the only reason you should be taking your denim shorts for a spin this winter.
Location, location, location
Splendour in the Grass is held on the outskirts of one of the most beautiful, cultured, and laidback places in the country—hello, Byron Bay. Ensure you take advantage of this bucket-list worthy destination and add a day or two onto your trip to enjoy everything the beachside town has to offer. Read: plenty. Alternatively, if camping isn’t your idea of fun, stay in Byron and take the bus service to and from the festival grounds each day.
After huge success in 2015, Splendour In The Craft is back and donning more glitter, pom poms, body paint and hot-glue guns that ever. Craft experts and aficionados will be holding workshops through the festival, plus a Mend It Like Beckham stall is on hand for festival goers if they are in need of any garment mending—for free!
Escaping the city and the daily work-life hustle is always a good idea. Splendour in the Grass is located at the North Byron Parklands, approximately 25km north of Byron Bay, and is escapism and tranquillity at its best. Get back to nature, sleep under the stars, and recharge your batteries.
Appreciate the arts
This year, Splendour Arts returns with a list of innovative and contemporary local artists who will be creating new experiences and unexpected moments within the crowds. Artforms ranging from performance, painting, installation, video art, and sculpture will be present throughout the festival for music-lovers to enjoy, appreciate, and be inspired between sets.
Could there be better excuse to wear your favourite pair of Levi's cut-offs and Bassike singlet in winter than a music festival in balmy northern NSW? We don’t think so. And how often do we have a great reason to throw on our near-new Hunters? Rarely. That’s good enough reason for us!
You can bring the kids!
Little Splendour is the children’s festival within Splendour in the Grass—genius. Little Splendour is an entire field of wonder dedicated to families and the littlest festival goers and is designed exclusively for them to relax, play and unleash their creative spirit. The space features a giant Kata Tipi where parents can retreat to (to feed, change and rest up), a play area with mini park, large sandpit, music garden, a second tipi for dress ups and storytelling with character visits from fairies, pirates and princesses. Parents, rejoice!
