Before and After: Nate Berkus Transforms a Nursery
Top designer and soon-to-be-dad Nate Berkus was recruited by ElleDecor.com to transform a small, nondescript guest room into a calming retreat for a newborn. With the sole request of maintaining the guest room's twin bed for overnight visitors, Berkus revamped the space with colour, pattern, and baby-friendly texture.
Opting for a palette of grays, black, and white, the designer visually enlarged the small space. "[The palette] is really soothing, and can easily go masculine or feminine by adding small accents," says Berkus. The designer added timeless style and whimsical personality into the room through thoughtfully chosen fabrics and accessories.
Keeping the colours neutral with delicate brass and gold accents ensures the room and décor will still be suitable as the baby grows and matures. "Babies are expensive," the designer says. "Why not be smart at this stage in the game and build a collection of pieces that will last as he grows?"
