A New Design Restaurant to Open at The Standard NYC

room Foodies and design lovers, rejoice! This Friday hotelier André Balazs will open Narcissa, a new restaurant at The Standard in New York's East Village. Helmed by Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, the restaurant's American menu will marry "the clean flavours and impeccably-sourced ingredients of California cuisine with new techniques of roasting, rotisserie, and slow-cooking." The restaurant is named for the first dairy cow at Balazs's Hudson Valley farm, which supplies organically-grown vegetables, herbs, eggs, and meat to Narcissa's chefs. room (1) Equally important to its thoughtfully considered menu are its seriously inspiring interiors. Balazs's goal was to create a neighbourhood restaurant, so reimagined the original layout of the Dubai-esque glass tower structure. He tells Vogue, "We've completely ripped out the bottom, and it's now four very East Village, bite-size pieces. The front entrance is through the old 1890 tenement house; the café is meant to be a little like the old Shark Bar with its own intimate feeling." The hotelier commissioned an angular multicolored wood relief  by artist Andrew Kuo for one interior wall and added a touch of pattern with striped blue booth cushions, which were inspired by Viennese café.
