Skip Cooking—These 4 Easy Mother's Day Drink Recipes Are Just as Impressive
We’ve been counting down the days 'til Mother’s Day for a little while now (in case you hadn’t already guessed). It involved a search for the best gifts for first-time mums, a roundup of presents for your mum, and an announcement about a new capsule of cute matching mother-daughter dresses. We also touched on awesome meal suggestions for when your family gathers on Sunday. But, one thing you may not have had time to think about is what you’ll be serving as drinks with your brunch or dinner (or maybe you’re not a cook and want to do the whole beverages-only thing). As with all of the above, we’ve got you covered—here are some of our favourite Mother’s Day drink recipes that will totally spoil mum this weekend (or any day). Scroll down to see the best of coffee, cocktails and everything in-between.
Blended Iced Mocha
For the family of coffee lovers comes this iced coffee with a dash of chocolate flavour (teens will like it, too). This Mother's Day drink calls for you to freeze chocolate almond milk in ice cube trays; then blend with chilled coffee or espresso. You can add some simple syrup if you like it extra sweet (whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce won’t hurt, either).
THE NON-ALCOHOLIC OPTION
Rose Lemon Spritzer
If you’re sick of serving Shirley Temples, this spritzer is a much more grown-up mocktail (just make sure to ditch the vodka). This recipe calls for rose water, which elevates a traditional lemon spritzer crafted from fresh lemon juice, honey and sparkling water. What really makes it special is adding a dash of blood orange for a pop of colour, plus the fresh rose garnish.
Grapefruit Mojitos for Two
We can appreciate that the original recipe calls for two servings—enough for you and mum (although you can easily make more for a group). The grapefruit gives this Mother's Day drink a sweet bitterness that will likely remind you of sipping pink lemonade as a kid (only this drink’s got an extra kick). Other than grapefruit, you’ll need limes, honey, white rum, sparkling water and just a bit of fresh mint…oh, and a cocktail shaker is going to be your best friend while you're making this one.
Boozy Blueberry Float
Is there anything better than a cocktail and dessert in one? We think not. Which is why this boozy blueberry float complete with fresh berries, blueberry vodka, lemon lime seltzer and no-churn vanilla ice cream is making our mouths water right now. Think of it as a quasi root beer float (with vodka). Start out by blending everything but the ice cream…then fill each glass halfway with the mixture. Top with a few scoops of ice cream and more berries.
