There’s about to be a whole lot more Emmas and Noahs walking around. That’s because for the second consecutive year, they’ve topped the list of the most popular baby names for girls and boys, respectively.
Each year, to mark the arrival of Mother’s Day, the Social Security Administration unveils its list of the most popular names of the previous 12 months. Both Emma and Noah topped the list for 2015 again, suggesting that 2016 should be no different—unless, of course, Olivia and Liam make a push for ultimate ubiquity. Both finished in second place.
The new additions to the list were Benjamin for boys, a more traditional biblical name that’s making a comeback, and Harper for girls, which has been around for a decade—think Harper Lee, whose recent book release and unfortunate passing may be responsible for the name’s sudden spike in popularity.
