Interior Designer Mark D. Sikes Shares the Details of His Exciting New Venture
We've long been fans of the work of interior designer and blogger Mark D. Sikes, so when he first told us all about his new fashion line M.D.S. Stripes, we couldn't wait to see the goods—and boy did they deliver. Inspired by the designer's "lifelong love affair" with blue and white stripes, Sikes designed a collection of American sportswear perfect for the chic, stylish women he often speaks of on his blog Chic People, Glamorous Places, and Stylish Things.
"Stripes are universally loved, I don't know if I ever met anyone who didn't love a blue and white stripe," the designer tells us. "Therefore I think the quintessential M.D.S. Stripe girl is every girl... She's a girl who wants to be both pretty and cool!"
Sikes hails from a fashion background so the sportswear line, which is made in California of 100-per cent cotton fabrics, isn't a departure from the designer's past experience. In fact, Sikes' views on fashion and its influence on interiors makes this segue into sportswear seem inevitable. "I believe fashion and interiors influence one another greatly," the designer says. "You can tell a lot about someone's home by what they wear and vice versa. When it comes down to it, a room is a lot like an outfit, you need to have a mix of old and new, high and low, light and dark, hard and soft, and most importantly, we know that every room and every outfit must have a great accessory."
