Home Tour: Jason Grant’s Eclectic Bondi Beach Home

Lauren Powell

Jason Grant’s home is effortlessly cool. It’s relaxed, intimidatingly styled yet inviting, and oozes character from every single nook and cranny. Almost exactly how we describe its iconic location: Bondi Beach. Situated off one of the main roads, the one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment is a true nod to the interior stylist and author’s laid back, relaxing but oh-so-charming style.

Tucked away at the rear of the Art Deco apartment block on the ground floor, the lived-in space is a tranquil oasis, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the trendy neighbourhood. Combined with high ceilings, vast windows and a large open living area, this loft-like space makes for envious apartment-living.

With a combination of styles and a treasure-trove of interior delights on every wall, shelf and surface (which by the way, you could spend hours discovering), Grant simply describes the style as “eclectic”. Having lived in the apartment with his partner Andrew and their Boston Terrier, Sophia, for three years, he says, “Our home has a combination of every style and it’s a mix of both of our things. It’s relaxed, laidback and not over styled—it’s our home.”

The duo has seen their individual styles merge to create a unique and character-filled home. “Our styles have mixed organically and our similarities and differences work together,” notes Grant. Their love for travel has also given their home a personal touch. “I love the U.S.—especially L.A.—and Andrew lived in London for a long time so these destinations are always an influence,” explains Grant. “We love mixing old and new together for a unique look.”

A potrait of their Boston Terrier, Sophia, takes pride of place in the living room's gallery space.

The home’s contagious personality and energy shines through from every corner. From an artwork taken by good friend, photographer Lauren Bamford, resting on an antique timber bench, to an array of planter pots with overflowing greenery hanging from the ceiling; or an illustration of their pooch created by a friend taking prime position on a gallery wall—the charm is endless. Can we move in already?

The orange Ercol Love Seat is Grant's favourite piece in the home. “It holds a special place,” he says.

“We are both collectors. Lately Andrew has been finding and collecting fallen feathers from lorikeets that we display on the wall,” says Grant. “We both love the collection crystals, too.”
