The iPhone 8 Is Almost Ready to Launch, and Yes, You're Going to Want It
Update 13/09: After weeks of leaked information and rumours galore, today Apple has finally released official information regarding the new iPhone series. The announcement took place in the Steve Jobs Theatre, where Apple's head of marketing Phil Schiller revealed the upgrades to the iPhone 8 range. What can you expect? The Sydney Morning Herald reports a sleek glass front and back design with aluminium sides, in grey, silver and gold, better battery efficiency, wireless charging capabilities, and new cameras that can capture 4K video at 60 frames per second. Also released was all the important numbers details: The iPhone 8 pricing will start at $1079, with the larger iPhone 8 Plus starting at $1229. Both models can be pre-ordered on September 15 and will be sent out on September 22.
And saving the best for last (as they usually do) Apple also released information about the mysterious sounding iPhone X, with Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive dubbing it, the "biggest leap since the original iPhone." The X model will start at $1579, and boasts a 5.8-inch display. It carries a high-tech retina display, and just as rumoured (below), won't have a traditional home button. Available for pre-order on October 27, the iPhone X will begin to ship on November 3.
What we find most exciting here at MyDomaine Australia, is the facial-recognition features within the new technology with an array of cameras and sensors means that not only will added security be added to your phone, so that you can make sure it's only your eyes on it, but also a new era of the humble emoji. This new facial recognition has allowed for Apple to create a new type of iMessage emoji dubbed the "Animoji", so now, you can add your face into that of a majestic unicorn or your cute pooch with your voice included.
Update 11/09: Word on the street today, is that the new possible name for the iPhone 8, (which information is officially launching about tomorrow) could be called iPhone X, with the step-down models going by the expected monikers of iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8. The rumour mill is also suggesting that the exclusive iPhone X will be the only model that won't have a home button.
01/09: It's hard to believe that the iPhone (which has fast become a staple in everyday living) is turning 10 this year, and to celebrate its birthday the tech rumour mill has been whispering about an iPhone 8 release very soon. And, because the globe can't help but ponder and predict what these new updates will be, we've rounded up some of the potential key features, that we have decided, we soon won't be able to live without. How long do we have to wait? Our pals at POPSUGAR Australia have pegged the announcement of a release date will be coming on September 12, which means it's time to start saving.
As for how much you'll have to set aside, Business Insider Australia is estimating that the new iPhone 8 won't be cheap, costing around $1,256. But you're probably getting bang for your buck, with many predicting a larger screen, no home button, and facial recognition technology. And for those who love seeing their devices as a sartorial accessory as well, experts also think a copper-blush finish instead of rose-gold will be the trending colour option.
Lastly, it also seems that the Apple gods have heard our plight for constant connectivity, with Gizmodo Australia anticipating it will include wireless charging and fast wired charging for the first time. But if you're not a fan of the single lighting port and no headphone jack situation from the iPhone 7, it's not looking like those features are going to change. We'll see you in line.
