Turns Out You Can Accurately Predict Whether You'll Marry Your S.O.
Every couple is different when it comes to relationship deal breakers. From godawful snoring or smoking (annoying), to shutting down emotional conversations (worse), the partner problems we can't abide span an enormous spectrum. But if you're in the habit of regularly picking apart your SO about the small stuff and are guilty of thinking, "they'd be perfect if..." you're probably in the wrong relationship. Yep, it turns out Mark Darcy had it absolutely right when he told Bridget Jones, "I like you...just as you are."
According to Mind Body Green, couples therapist Margaret Paul says simply asking yourself, "Can I accept my partner exactly as they are?" will accurately tell you whether you're with Mr Right or Mr Right Now. This is because meaningful and lasting change can only come from within—not as a result of incessant nagging. Paul believes an ability to accept things about each other you don't find lovable (like the hole-ridden sneakers he wears constantly), is a pretty solid way of predicting whether or not you'll get hitched. She adds: "Love them or leave them, but let go of expecting change. That's the only way to have a happy, fulfilling relationship." Tl;dr: To determine compatibility ask what you are willing to accept, not whether they're willing to change.
