Always Running Late? Here's How to Break the Bad Habit Before the Holidays
Ten minutes before my alarm clock went off this morning, I woke up in a panic. I had dreamt that I was six minutes late for a very important meeting and I ended up getting fired because of it. While this may sound extreme, it was probably related to my overpacked schedule and unrealistic approach to time management. I’ve always thought I could do it all, but as the chaotic holiday season is upon us, I realise that time management and punctuality are more important than ever. Rather than leave your friends and family members waiting on you over the holidays, PopSugar Australia has offered up some realistic suggestions to mitigate chronic lateness. Scroll through to read about the time-management habits of extremely punctual people and how you can adopt them in your own life:
Be honest about how long things take
People who are chronically late usually underestimate the amount of time it takes to get ready. Rather than saying I’ll be there in two! when they still need to take a shower, primp, and get dressed, a punctual person might say, I’ll be ready in 25 minutes. Try tracking how long it takes you to actually get ready, and make a point to be more realistic with your time estimates going forward. Your friends and family will thank you.
Punctual people get things done ahead of time rather than waiting until the last minute. This means picking out their clothes the night before, packing for a trip in advance, bringing packed lunches to work, etc. By getting things done ahead of time, they effectively eliminate chaotic mornings or all-nighters finishing an assignment or project and lead a healthier lifestyle overall.
Don't press the snooze button
Perhaps a byproduct of going to bed earlier, punctual people don’t hit the snooze button. They stick to a sleep schedule and don’t delay when it’s time to rise. Science supports this healthy habit too; researchers found that hitting the snooze button in the morning actually makes you drowsier and more tired for the rest of the day.
