Tour This Australian Wedding Designer's Bohemian-Inspired L.A. Flagship
If you’re a bride-to-be, already wedded, or dreaming of tying the knot, it’s highly likely you’re familiar with coveted bridal label Grace Loves Lace. With a dress collection that would make any woman want to catch the next bouquet, and an Instagram account that puts our wedding Pinterest boards to shame, Grace Loves Lace is a one-stop shop for wedding inspiration for its 400k social followers.
Founded by Gold Coast wedding dress designer Megan Ziems back in 2010, Grace Loves Lace has defined a new era of modern bridal design using the finest French lace to create uniquely bohemian yet sophisticated handmade dresses.
Six years in, Ziems now has a team of 40, a showroom in Burleigh Heads on Queenland’s south coast, and most recently, a flagship store in L.A.’s Venice beach, which represents the brand’s free-spirited-meets-chic aesthetic to a tee. “We wanted a space that instantly felt sophisticated, calm, inviting, and represented GLL and our style,” says Ziems. “I believe a space should tell a story.” Scroll down and take a tour through the heavenly space.
MYDOMAINE: Where is the office located?
MEGHAN ZIEMS: Right on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice Beach—dream location!
MD: Who designed the space?
MZ: It was definitely a team effort—I worked on the purchasing with a team from Australia and we had our good friend who owns a shop-fitting business fly out to L.A. with some of my HQ team. We knew what we wanted so it was a matter of getting it done in a short time frame.
MD: What was your inspiration for the design and style of the space?
MZ: We wanted a space that instantly felt sophisticated, calm, inviting, and represented GLL and our style. I love down-to-earth natural luxury using raw materials, mixing textures, and layering it with patterns and prints—I believe a space should tell a story and not be too clinical. It was crucial each bride has their own privacy with their one-on-one stylist whilst we maintained an open plan, airy environment that allowed the bones of the building to shine and offer tranquillity.
MD: What do you love most about the space?
MZ: The super high ceilings, tonnes of natural light, and exposed timber beams—it's a dream space.
MD: What it your favourite item in the space?
MZ: The stunning teal velvet lounge suite—the colour with the timber and gold and brass accents throughout the space is such a beautiful combination. Our copper racks hanging from the ceiling are incredible, it could pass as an art gallery when you walk in. We flew our good friend over from Australia to help with the fit out and he is full of amazing ideas that meant we worked with the space to create such a bold statement without being over the top.
MD: How long have you occupied this space?
MZ: One month and here to stay! We love L.A.
MD: How would you describe the environment and culture of the office?
MZ: Organised chaos, busy and exciting! Our company culture is fantastic, we are a big family. It's a dream to have a large group of women who are all very fun, intelligent, driven, genuine, and so down-to-earth.
