Expert Tips for Gorgeous Gift Wrap

holidaybanner Overwhelmed by the thought of wrapping all of the holiday packages we've amassed for our friends and family, we called for reinforcements. Simone LeBlanc, founder of the boutique gift-giving company by the same name, has built her business following the motto, "inspired gifts, expertly given." With legions of stylish fans, who better to ask for tips and recommendations for creating a unique wrapping scheme than the woman herself? Below she offers her top tips, suggestions, and products to ensure the outside of your packages are just as beautifully thoughtful as the presents within.

Make like Frauline Maria and opt for brown paper packages tied up with string. Break away from traditional holiday colours and wrapping and create a simplified palette to work from. By using a neutral kraft coloured paper, you can layer textures, ribbons, foliage, metallic threads, and more to build a cohesive wrapping look. Create multiple packages in this design and together they build a beautiful story.

Though they do have kitschy charm, leave the stick on bows to Santa's elves. Nature-themed toppers are perfect for this time of year. Find your embellishments in your own garden or grab your favourite garden tarp and hit the streets to gather a few clippings. Your local flower mart will have some seasonal options for you as well. Eucalyptus (pictured) works wonders and adds a nice seasonal scent. If your foraged finds need drying time (best to deliver the topper either fresh or fully dried, rather than in the mid- drying phase) simply wrap the stalks with twine and hang them upside down in a dark room for a few days. You'll be left with natural, beautiful shapes that will bring your package to life.

There's something to say for treating your wrapping like you would your favourite holiday soiree ensemble: pull out your sparkle and let it shine. Have fun with it and make your package feel festive. Mix your metallics, add some patterned paper layers, and your prezzie will feel like the life of the party - so sparkly underneath that tree!

Hand-made tags add a playful finishing touch to any gift and add a unique element to help the recipient feel even more special. Mix and match colourful, patterned paper by making geometric cut-outs against a simple background. Add a colourful tie or hemp twine as the final touch. The bolder the paper, the better. With a cleanly cut shape, your pattern will pop!
