Home Tour: Ladylike Scandinavian Simplicity
We stopped dead in our tracks when we came across this fantastically calming and relaxing loft space from German design duo Studio OINK. A restrained palette of natural tones punctuated by warm woods and greenery defines the fresh space, while a minimalist design enables a focus to be placed on the contrast of textures. The designers describe their aesthetic as a “balance between poetry and function, of simplicity and playfulness,” all of which is clearly seen in this feminine space. Though sparse, the home’s furnishings and accessories create a feeling of warmth despite the design’s lack of colour and the loft’s concrete ceilings and polished stone floor, which would otherwise feel cold and sterile.
Beach photography, hung off-center in an unexpected way, brings colour and personality to the kitchen area.
Also photo stylists, the designers at Studio OINK made smart, conscious decisions when it came to accessorizing this space. Vintage-inspired pottery are the perfect vessels for feminine flowers set on a modern, streamlined dining table, and an edited collection of objects and books make the space personal without feeling cluttered.
Enveloping, floor-to-ceiling sheer drapery not only block light but add warmth and texture to the dining and living areas. The fluid sheers also act as room dividers, sectioning off the open spaces from each other, creating a feeling of graceful tranquility while simultaneously remaining functional.
Unexpected details, like a vintage oil portrait and traditional floor lamp, inject personality into the home’s main living area and create contrast when paired with the sleek, minimal lines of the furniture pieces.
Greenery in the bathroom is an unusual, yet welcome styling choice in the otherwise cold tiled room. Injecting colour and nature, the bathroom’s plants create a spa-like vibe.
