Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely Invites Us Into Her Hip LA Home
DOSSIER: NAME: Rumi Neely TRADE: Fashion blogger and photographer. VIBE: Stark bohemian with tons of texture. SPACE: The living room of her Mid-City, Los Angeles bungalow. Rumi Neely is the essence of cool. Whether modelling a new Chanel art-school backpack on her blog, Fashion Toast, or lounging at home with Kumo, her feline friend, she is undeniably the kind of girl we want to emulate. Her home is no different. The Los Angeles bungalow she shares with British boyfriend Christopher Dowson -- and Kumo of course -- is a stark spin on bohemian style. "One could also call it Texture City," says Neely. She showed us around her lounge-like living room, which is as well assembled as any of her fashionable outfits.
Over the past two years of living in the home, Neely has curated an impressive collection of beautiful pieces. "I like to pick things up as I come across them instead of going out of my way to find the perfect item," she says. But when Dowson moved in from across the pond, he brought with him a new take on decorating. "He's a little more focused. He's added some masculinity to the vibe with Jonathan Adler shelves I wouldn't have considered and a navy wall." The two seem to be a match made in décor heaven, as the space is well balanced and totally comfortable. Dowson also unpacked one more tip: "He reminded me that plants can exist indoors as well, which I'm thankful for."

Neely knows a good piece when she sees one. Often times it's a Balenciaga sandal or an Isabel Marant sheepskin coat, but once in a while it's a piece of décor, such as her leather Chesterfield sofa, a prized possession. "My parents brought it over from Hong Kong, where we lived for a year or so when I was little. I can't imagine getting rid of it, both because of the history involved and how photogenic it is," she shares. Another favourite piece in the room is the framed print over the console, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Anglomania exhibit. "Chris took a detour to the Met during New York Fashion Week and came back with that as a pre-Valentine's Day present, and then he had it framed here in LA. I guess I didn't have enough British things for his taste."

The first thing you notice in Neely's living room is her love of all things textural; a Moroccan shag pouf blends seamlessly with a similarly shaggy rug, mixed metallics shine, and leather seating polishes off the look. A bountiful supply of fur throws seem to be Neely's signature: "They're mostly souvenirs from my travels to Sweden and Australia -- they make everything feel more magical and fort-like." There is definitely no shortage of places to cuddle up with Kumo, though his favourite spot is "a gold tray that's just too small to serve as a bed, but is his absolute favourite thing to jam himself into."
