Inside Our Editor-at-Large's Elegant Holiday Party
The holidays are one of my favourite times of the year, as there is no better occasion to get into the sprit and have fun with decorating your house. My mantra for holiday décor is that less is definitely more… unless you want your house to look like a Christmas nightmare. Stay true to your house and space, and work with the colour schemes and design that you already have, so that your decorations complement rather than distract from your interiors. My house is tonal with hints of warm colours, so I am always mixing it every year to keep it fresh, while having fun and setting the mood for a party.
Read below for my three main tips for creating a sophisticated holiday setting.
I love to use real greenery when possible because I love the natural aromas and the way the leaves fall. If you do not have time for constant upkeep, you can incorporate faux greenery and other elements, such as feathers or pinecones, that don’t need any attention but still look festive. I recommend sticking with natural tones and textures and stay away from those garish red and green colours that send my head spinning!
I believe you can have too much of a good thing, so I love to keep it effortless and minimal (but still with the holiday spirit) by integrating my favourite ornaments and china with warm colorways.
The holidays are always reminiscent of my childhood so I like to keep the tradition going and incorporate those pieces that have been passed through my family. Keep it fresh by injecting your own current personal style. An eclectic mix is a must for me, and by choosing the best elements from different styles, you can create something truly magical and unpredictable.
