Drink Me: Whiskey Smash

While some may be mourning the end of summer this weekend, cocktail scribe Noah Rothbaum is celebrating: "Every year, I look forward to the fall," the Editor-in-Chief of James Beard Award-winning Liquor.com says. "Since the days can still be warm and the nights cool, it's perfect conditions for a cocktail lover. The Whiskey Smash, with its mix of lemon, mint and bourbon tops Rothbaum's list of season-straddling libations: "It's the perfect drink for transitioning from summer to winter," he says. Ingredients half a lemon, cut into wedges 4 to 6 fresh mint leaves 3/4 oz simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water) 2 oz Elijah Craig 12-Year-Old Bourbon Tools cocktail shaker sieve muddler ice 1. In a shaker, muddle the lemon. 2. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. 3. Shake, and double-strain (pouring from the shaker through a sieve) into a glass filled with crushed ice or one large ice chunk. 4.
