Shop the Room: A Comfortable Kitchen
Kitchens are the heart of the home these days: where casual meals are cooked, familiar friends are welcomed, and meaningful conversations are enjoyed. Keep your kitchen cosy by incorporating mixed woods, ample natural light, and an open floor plan. Here are a few tips to take down if the heart of your home could use a bit of a pump up.

The best thing you can do when setting up a kitchen floor plan is to include multiple conversation areas. In this space, two un-upholstered wingback chairs with linen seats make for an unostentatious place for sipping morning coffee, and a worn-wood dining table paired with sturdy metal cafe chairs is the perfect place for a casual meal. Also, a cornucopia of crudités and cocktails could be spread across the sturdy island for informal entertaining. Each of these designated areas give this kitchen a purpose at every time of the day.

This kitchen feels light and airy because of its lack of upper cabinets floating on the walls. Keeping storage sub-countertop allows for the room to feel large and open, but it can also majorly cut down on your storage capabilities. Combat this by incorporating an island with central storage, an armoire-like pantry, and an open-shelving case to house your treasured tableware. These various forms of storage will not only keep the room feeling breezy, but are also much more interesting than standard cabinets.

Notice the lack of recessed can lighting in this kitchen? Although it can provide widespread, even light at night, it can also make a kitchen feel more like an operating room. Instead of installing recessed cans, hang pendant lights and wall sconces in key areas of the kitchen. You will still be able to perform your culinary duties, but you'll make a more moody environment for the nighttime. And with a kitchen as comfortable as this one, you're sure to enjoy it long after the sun goes down.
