Collette Dinnigan needs no introduction. Best known for her now retired 25-year-old eponymous fashion label and its famed feminine ready-to-wear, lingerie, and bridal collections, Dinnigan is one of the world’s most respected names in the fashion industry.

Speaking with The Grace Tales, the iconic Australian fashion designer and mother of two spoke candidly about parenting—mums and mum-to-be, get your notebooks at the ready. Dinnigan, her husband Bradly, and two children, Estelle, 12, and Hunter, 3, recently relocated to Italy in a quest for the ultimate family experience. “We wanted to have a different experience and put the focus on our family unit. Italy is a country both Bradley and I love. We were married in Positano and have spent many family holidays here. It was a dream come true really,” she says of their move to Rome. It’s safe to say this successful working mother knows a thing or two about putting her family first. Read on for Dinnigan’s best parenting advice and her most memorable moment in motherhood.

THE GRACE TALES: What is the best advice you’ve been given about motherhood?

COLLETTE DINNIGAN: Time spent with your children is not time wasted… Make sure it’s quality time and your attention isn’t on work or whatever else is might be distracting you.

TGT: How would you describe your parenting style?

CD: Inclusive, loving, with as much routine as possible.

TGT: What has been the most memorable moment of motherhood for you?

CD: When you first hold your baby in your arms—it’s an emotional moment never to be forgotten. Having my son eight years after the birth of my daughter has made me appreciate and savour even more all the different ages.
