A Photographer's Intimate Look Inside Elizabeth Taylor's L.A. Home
The nature of celebrity has long been described as mythic, but we often feel we know these people because of our love for their work and familiarity with their lives. In documentary photographer Catherine Opie’s new book, 700 Nimes Road, she explores the celebrity identity of none other than Elizabeth Taylor.
According to Vogue, Opie never met Taylor, instead getting to know the icon through her belongings. The surprisingly intimate lens of the camera offered a portrait of a larger-than-life celebrity, told via her earthly possessions and sparkling jewelry, her home décor and her neatly aligned Chanel shoes. The icon’s home feels at once deliciously luxurious and ripe for playing dress-up in, yet utterly warm, personal, lived-in, and inviting—an inspiring balance of lifestyle if ever there was one.
