Inside a Fashion Blogger's Light-Filled Brooklyn Nursery
Decorating a nursery when you're expecting can be a tough design predicament. Fashion blogger Helena Glazer of Brooklyn Blonde admits when it came to creating a nursery from scratch, she wasn't sure where to start. "All I knew was that I wanted it to be as gender-neutral as possible, so I opted for a grey colour scheme," she says. Glazer recently teamed up with Homepolish stylist Matthew Cane to give her space a makeover with key accents from HomeGoods. Keep scrolling to see her stunning, refined light-drenched nursery.
"The number one thing to think about when decorating a nursery is that it’s an extension of your home—so approach it that way!" says stylist Michael Cane. Continuing the couple's sleek, refined aesthetic, Cane kept the baby's room minimal with a grey-and-white colour palette.
The white animal head wall hangings were one of the first pieces chosen to give the space character. "When Matthew and I were shopping for the room at HomeGoods, he picked up one of these animal heads… and it was like a light bulb went off," says Glazer. "He told me he had this crazy idea to do an animal bust gallery wall—and I’m obsessed with the way it turned out!"
Cane's top tip for styling a practical nursery is to include both open and closed storage. "These hanging baskets are perfect to display books and cute stuffed animals, but then store away the bigger, bolder-looking toys in these oversize trunks," he says. "It keeps the room looking clean and sleek—and it also helps that Helena won’t be tripping over toys all the time."
Grey and white has the potential to look cold in a nursery, so Michael and Helena gave the space depth with bursts of blue. "Matthew helped develop my vision for this and actually used navy as our pop of colour, which I thought was so creative because you typically think of pops of colour to be intense reds or oranges but this just felt so us," she says.
