The New Home Exchange Site for Design Lovers

Vacation rental startups like Airbnb and Onefinestay have accustomed us to the idea of making ourselves at home in a stranger's home, but no matter how cosy, they are still rentals, after all. For those interested in a free home exchange à la Amanda Woods in The Holiday (Jude Law not included), there's a new company that's shaking up the industry with an emphasis on design. Started by Agusti and Eva, a duo of graphic designers from Barcelona, home exchange site Behomm celebrates homes that are full of inspiration and creativity. But there's a catch: the by-invitation-only site arranges vacations only between designers and visual artists -- a prerequisite that ensures both security and aesthetics. That said, the professions list of visual artists is long, including everyone from art curators and ikebana artists to landscape architects and window dressers. If you don't make that list, you'll just have to vacation with your artsiest friend.

The cost for the exchange is free, but the company charges roughly $55 for a three-month membership to use the site or $129 for a yearly membership -- a steal compared to nightly hotel rates. The community is offering a free 50-day trial, but you must be invited either by a friend who is already a member or one of Behomm's founders by request.
