If you've every lived in a rental that hasn't had a modern renovation, you probably know the cabinets that once dressed this apartment. With its generic beveled edges and their matches-with-nothing mid-tone wood stain, the '90s cabinetry has haunted many a home. It can be hard to imagine life after yellow linoleum and Berber cabinet, but this inspiring before and after proves that even the most doomed kitchen can rise from the dead. The Queens townhouse of event designer Melissa Lee of Bespoke Only was completely gutted and revived with handsome Russian oak wood floors, contemporary furniture, and yes, new cabinets (courtesy of IKEA, no less).
